MICHAELS HOSPITAL UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO Applications are invited for the position of Psychiatrist-in-Chief at St. Michaels Hospital (SMH). The hospital is organized is a programmatic fashion with emphasis on Heart and Vascular Disease, Trauma and Neurosurgery, Neuromuscular Skeletal Disorders, Oncology and Specialized Services, Inner City Health and Diabetes Comprehensive Care. The Hospital services more than 73,500 patients in our emergency department, approximately 507,825 ambulatory visits and over 25,000 inpatients with 463 acute adult inpatient beds and 58 ventilator beds in four separate Intensive Care Units. Importantly, St. Michaels has recently embarked upon an ambitious redevelopment project – St. Michaels 3.0 – which includes a new patient care tower at the corner of Queen and Victoria Streets, a renovated Emergency Department and significant upgrades to improve the existing hospital space. The Mental Health and Addictions Service at St. Michaels Hospital provides a range of high quality integrated interprofessional mental health programs, and contributes to the academic mission of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. The Mental Health Service is an integral part of the hospitals Inner City Health Program. Clinical components include a multimodal Psychiatric Emergency Service, a 33 bed Inpatient Service, a comprehensive Community Mental Health Service, a Medical Psychiatry Consultation Service and specialized services in Geriatric Psychiatry and in HIV related disorders. An array of high quality educational activities are offered, and research foci include psychiatric aspects of HIV/AIDS, suicide studies and mental health systems research. Clinician scientists participate in the Centre for Urban Health Solutions and the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, facilities which provide infrastructure for research and education. St. Michaels seeks an outstanding leader with strong clinical, academic, administrative and interpersonal skills who as Chief will enhance the hospitals quality of care agenda and actively promote academic development in the mental health field. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to faculty development, interprofessional practice and the promotion of partnerships, and will have established a strong academic track record. He/she will hold a fellowship from the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada, be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario and should be eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at the University of Toronto. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
